Defining the Frame is a series of site specific performances for the TV screen. In this video, twins Michael and Alan Fleming dress in identical clothing, stripping themselves of individuality so that they become bodies moving through space. The artists are investigating the consequences of a 2-dimensional frame projected on a 3-dimensional landscape. The video emphasizes the flat quality of the TV screen. Each sequence progresses toward the flatness of the screen, making a transition from a wooded landscape to a flat brick wall. The structures which support the artists are hidden from the cameraÂ’s view. This act of deception challenges the notion of the video camera as an objective eye, capable of unbiased representation. |
